I use GPT4 many times a day. Instead of Googling for an answer, I will ask GPT4. Often, I will describe a function I want and have GPT4 write it. I use it to reformat strings, summarise text, and perform many other functions.
It is the most useful tool I have ever used as a programmer. It's absolutely not a "hype train".
I’ve used ChatGPT to give me script templates, write a README in markdown (it even came up with appropriate build commands), write an annual performance report, and answer questions on topics from FAA regulations to Kubernetes. Copilot does a pretty good job as a “junior engineer” to hammer out first drafts for me.
I’m sure there’s a good deal of over-promising, overexuberant salesmen trying to make a quick buck from it too a la crypto, but the technology is absolutely useful and providing real value as-is.
I use it as a Google search and text summarizer. So far seems to be the only truly useful thing to me.
So I imagine services for that will appear. Maybe Google itself will incorporate it to stay relevant.
ChatGPT is quite good at organizing text into taxonomies, error correction, anomaly detection, data cleaning, etc.
I bet there are a lot of companies out there where that's a non-trivial percentage of their workflow (I know that in my case, we have reconsidered several internal projects in light of ChatGPT doing a better job).
It already does translation on the level / better than Google Translate, without being specifically trained for it (as one example). And it can play chess without a specialized model.
Oracle to worship? There are no serious people doing any such thing. I don't even know of clowns doing that. Is this twitter discourse, a strawman or more poor faith?
I dont wanna say it but I think this is a hype train headed for failure
