Just like the locked-down mobile devices that have unfortunately perverted the nature of general-purpose computing, Boot Guard is a tool of planned obsolescence and manufacturer control disguised as "security". Want to fix something in the BIOS that they didn't want you to have[1][2][3]? Too bad, it's locked and they won't release a newer version to force you to buy another. Absolute bastards.
